Most sign makers these days use some level of stenciling to create their signs. And I understand this. Stencils speed up the manufacturing process and also bring a level of "perfection" to the finished product. Stencils can take hours of work to design and the process of using the stencil to paint an actual sign is no easy task.
At the same time, I feel there is something special about a sign that is created, from start to finish, with an artist's own two hands. So for me, I keep it "old school," and prefer NOT using stencils in my work. Every piece you see is lettered and painted by me, free-hand style, and with every bit of originality I have to offer. My goal as a sign maker is to create pieces that are one-of-a-kind, encouraging to the heart, and uniquely handmade.
The recent trend in home decorating leans toward neutrals, farmhouse style, and "shabby chic." And while this can be lovely, it is just not me. I LOVE color, and I personally like to mix up the decor in my home... pops of color or texture, unique handmade finds, treasures picked up on travels, and fun antique store scores with a story to tell.
So you'll find a similar feel in my work. I love using color. I love using mixed media. Combine hand-lettering, a fun color scheme, and a fabric rosette or felt heart or floral paper, and I'm in my creative zone! My hope is that my work will be a compliment to your current decor style, and bring a little extra joy and brightness to your space.
